Recently, Nike revealed it would be dropping a Nike Blazer for Serena Williams to celebrate her return to Grand Slam competition at the 2018 French Open. But Williams is not the only female tennis star that Nike is celebrating. A special edition Air Max 1 for Maria Sharapova will also be releasing soon.
This pair features a black nubuck upper, black midsole, and tonal branding on the heel and tongue. Contrast comes from a beige neoprene tongue and leather tongue tag. Three laces choices will also come packaged with this pair—black, beige, and a cream satin ribbon option. While there is no outward branding that points to this being a pair for Sharapova, her 'MS' logo is debossed into the black leather insole. Adding to its premium nature, the lining also uses black leather.
Nike also released a premium version of the Cortez for the Russian-born athlete earlier this year composed of premium tan leather that was inspired by her west coast home in Los Angeles.
While there is currently no official release date for Sharapova's Nike Air Max 1, the 2018 French Open kicking off at the end of the month could point to a release in the near future.
