Nike's newest soccer silhouette, the Magista 2, builds on the original Magista boot via a heat map upper with peaks and valleys accommodating key zones for ball-to-foot connections. These innovations were arrived at after Nike designer Phil Woodman considered evolutionary processes as they relate to the foot.

"I was interested in the hypothesis that pruning hands were an evolutionary development for maintaining grip on wet surfaces and tools," Woodman said. "That got me thinking about how the foot might have adapted had its primary purpose been football."

Intact from the original is the Flyknit collar, a piece of design that's becoming increasingly pervasive on Nike footwear.

The Nike Magista 2 launches on July 24 via the Nike Football app.
