You can throw around the Crying Jordan meme to your heart's content, but don't let it distract you from Michael Jordan's philanthropy.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Jordan plans to donate $500,000 to Charlotte, N.C., literacy programs including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library Foundation, Freedom School Partners, Child Care Resources Inc., and CrossRoads Corp.

Along with the donation, Jordan and his corporate donors will help foot the bill to build 18 new libraries in the area and fully stock them with books.

"When I took over majority control of the [Charlotte Hornets], one of the biggest impacts I wanted... was to reconnect back to the community," Jordan said.

It looks like the GOAT is living up to his word.
