New Balance will make good on its promise of 3D printed sneakers this week with a very limited launch ahead of the Boston Marathon.

The cutting-edge tech involved results in a pretty hefty price of $400 for the sneakers, called the Zante Generate. Just 44 pairs will be available as a nod to the brand's current chairman and owner Jim Davis buying New Balance 44 years ago on Patriot’s Day in 1972.

The shoe releases on Friday, April 15, at 9 a.m. EST via New Balance online and at the brand's New Balance Experience Store on Boylston Street in Boston.

The Zante Generate taps 3D Systems for help on the production end, using the company's laser sintering powder to create the futuristic outsole.
