Vintage Ad: Larry Johnson as Grandmama for the Converse Aero-Glide

To celebrate Larry Johnson's birthday today, we'll take a look at a classic Converse ad with LJ as Grandmama.

Larry Johnson celebrates a birthday today, so what better time to take a look at a classic ad with LJ as everyone's favorite Grandmama?

If you were a kid in the early 90's and followed basketball, chances are you wre a fan of the Charlotte Hornets.  It might have just been the teal and purple, but almost every kid loved the Hornets and would have given their left arm for a Hornets Starter jacket and cap.  If the Hornets weren't already cool enough, their star power forward dressed up like a high flying, slam dunking grandmother for his Converse ads.

The Grandmama ads from Converse have gone down as not only one of the best and most memorable sneaker ad campaigns of the 90's, but of all time.  Larry Johnson dressed as his own grandmother, but with all the same on-court abilities as LJ himself, was a creative and hilarious idea that we just don't see very often in modern sneaker campaigns.  In this ad we see Grandmama wearing the Aero-Glide, Larry's first signature shoe.
