With Tiger Woods' star somewhat dimmed, Nike may be eyeing golf's newest superstar as their next endorser.

According to a report by the Irish Times, Nike could sign McIlroy to a 10-year deal worth as much as $250 million when his Titleist/Footjoy contract expires at the end of the year. Considering that pre-scandal Tiger Woods brought in about $20 million anually from Nike, those figures are are likely inflated. However, industry experts believe the 23-year old could receive an offer in the same ballpark due to his upside and marketability.

McIlroy is currently the #1 ranked golfer in the world ahead of Woods and won his second major championship at the PGA in August. Woods recently praised McIlroy, saying "The game of golf is in great hands with Rory — he’s here to stay."

Whether or not he's 10 years, $250 million dollars good remains to be seen, but the Irish Times' sources believe a Nike deal is imminent.

After being contacted by the Irish Times, McIlroy's agent Conor Ridge offered this statement: “As you are aware, Rory is under contract with Titleist. It is our policy not to pass comment regarding any industry speculation related to any of our players.”

Do you think the timing is right to sign Wood's eventual successor as the face of Nike Golf? More on this story as it develops.
