Nike continues to shave weight off its performance cleats, having just come with up with its lightest football cleat yet in the Vapor Untouchable 2.
The cleat was developed using 3D printing and Finite Element Analysis software, which maps stress points along the cleat plate in the testing process. Matching the innovation on the bottom is Nike's Flyweave technology on the upper, which allows for the 9.5 ounce weight without conceding anything in the realm of structure or support.
The Nike Vapor Untouchable 2 is of course being pitched by Nike as part of a complete system, complemented by the Nike Vapor Untouchable uniform.
These cleats will be worn first by high school athletes at Nike schools competing in state championship games. After that, watch for the four College Football Playoff teams to wear the cleats, as well as Nike athletes in the 2016 Super Bowl.
The Vapor Untouchable 2 launches at retail in January, 2016.
