One of Nike Basketball’s most popular athletes is reportedly unlikely to receive an extension to his signature deal when it comes to an end next year.
Just moments ago, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported that Brooklyn Nets All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has a new signature shoe making its debut this fall which is expected to be the final model from his namesake line after his current endorsement deal with the Swoosh is over at the end of the 2022-23 NBA season.
Per ESPN, Nike Kyrie products are still expected to be released after Irving’s current deal comes to an end next year including retro styles from past drops.
Irving has been signed to Nike since 2014 and at the time of writing, Irving has released eight signature shoes with Nike including several takedown models like the Kyrie Flytrap.
Irving’s relationship with Nike seemingly took a turn last year after the Nets guard publicly called the design of the Kyrie Infinity “trash” when a first look at the shoe surfaced on social media in June 2021 prior to its retail debut.
“We don’t comment on contracts or rumors or speculation. Kyrie remains a Nike athlete,” a Nike spokesperson told ESPN.
Nike has yet to confirm the reports about Irving’s future with the brand.
