Back in 2020, Nike SB released their own interpretation of the “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1, but purists will also be glad to learn that the classic cross-trainer is returning in its original form soon.
The upcoming retro of the “Chlorophyll” Nike Air Trainer 1 Mid first surfaced from @Shanghaisole on Instagram. The shoe, designed by Tinker Hatfield, debuted in 1987 and was made famous by tennis legend John McEnroe. It makes sense that the “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 is seeing a reissue in 2022 as this year will mark the 35th anniversary of the shoe.
The look starts off with a white leather upper that’s combined with grey nubuck overlay panels and a black mudguard with a matching midfoot strap. The shoe’s standout detail is the green hits on the tongue, eyelets, and heel.
This year’s retro of the “Chlorophyll” Nike Air Trainer 1 Mid is currently available at select retailers overseas but a stateside release of the shoe has not yet been announced by the brand.
UPDATE (03/11): European retailer Asphaltgold has confirmed that this year’s “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 will launch overseas on March 22 for 125 € (around $137), but there’s still no word on when the shoe is dropping in the stateside. Check back soon for official updates.
UPDATE (04/18): Official Nike product images of this year’s “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 have surfaced, which could indicate that the stateside release could be arriving soon. Keep it locked to Sole Collector for updates.
UPDATE (05/10): Nike has confirmed that this year’s “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 will be released on May 20 via SNKRS for $120.
