Nike Air Penny V - Phoenix Suns

Penny's sometimes forgotten stay in Phoenix remembered with new Penny V colorway.

words // Brandon Richard

We're all familiar with the years Penny Hardaway spent forming the league's most exciting duo with Shaquille O'Neal in Orlando, but he also spent a significant portion of his career playing with the Phoenix Suns. During the summer of 1999, Penny's tenure with the Magic officially came to an end when he was dealt to the Suns in a multi-player trade. Injuries prevented Backcourt 2000 (the name given to Penny and Jason Kidd during their brief stint as teammates) from ever realizing their potential and subsequently hindered Penny's  four and a half year stay in the desert. However, the team's classic purple and orange digs make for great sneaker colorway inspiration, and this upcoming Phoenix-flavored Air Penny V is proof of that.

Featuring a Dark Grey Hyperfuse-constructed upper, the "Phoenix" V is accented by purple and orange throughout, including a gradient-style fade along the midsole. The 180-Max Air bag is also done in orange, while a translucent outsole wraps things up below.

Still plenty of information to be revealed about the Air Penny V, but look for these to drop this winter.
