Much like this offseason, the Orlando Magic were faced with franchise-altering decisions during the summer of 1993. With Shaquille O'Neal already in the fold, the Magic were awarded the 1st Overall Pick for the second consecutive year, and Michigan forward Chris Webber was widely regarded as the top prize of the class. However, the Magic were under the impression that O'Neal and Webber would get in each other's way and preferred pairing one of the draft's top guards with their dominant young center. After selected Webber with the number one pick, Orlando immediately sent his rights to Golden State in exchange for Memphis guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and future draft considerations. The trade would re-shape the landscape of the league for the next decade, though Webber's most memorable years were spent as a member of the Sacramento Kings.
As part of Nike Sportswear's Draft Lottery Pack, created in celebration of the upcoming NBA Draft, Chris Webber's Air Max Sensation has dropped in an Orlando Magic-inspired colorway. The black-based shoe is complemented by metallic silver and a healthy amount of Soar Blue, which turns up on the laces, inner lining, Swoosh branding and outsole. Each pair is lined with custom lottery ball insoles that feature Webber's jersey number '4.'
