It's 2015. We may not have Hoverboards or flying cars, but we will get power laces: the Nike Mag is confirmed for 2015.

While speaking at the Agenda trade show in Long Beach on Monday, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield confirmed that power laces would debut in 2015 and that they would be featured on the Mag. Release information, pricing, and availability have yet to be announced but Hatfield did say "there are still 11 and two-thirds months left in 2015," so be patient. Whenever Nike does debut the Mag to the public with power laces, expect them to be in a limited variety.

In 1988, Hatfield created the futuristic-looking sneaker for the film Back To The Future II, which was set in 2015. It is one of the most mythical sneakers in history, and not only lit up, but auto-laced — a sneakerhead's dream. Nike released the Mag for the first time in 2011, with 1,500 pairs being auctioned off, exclusively on eBay for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. While they were a near perfect replication, one thing they were missing was the power laces feature.

Hatfield stated that the auto-lacing technology wasn't created yet. And last year, the designer confirmed that Nike would release an auto-laced sneaker in 2015 after a patent for the power lacing technology was filed. He didn't state as to what shoe it would be featured on, leaving many skeptics to think it was either going to debut on an all-new sneaker or, the Back To The Future sneakers.
