The metaverse has garnered a huge amount of interest from sneaker and sportswear companies in recent months and the latest brand that’s attempting to pivot to the virtual space is New Balance.

According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben on Twitter, the Boston-based sportswear company filed for three trademarks on Jan. 13 that will allow its products to be used in the metaverse. The first trademark will allow New Balance products, specifically footwear, clothing, and various sportswear equipment and accessories to be used in online virtual worlds. The second trademark allows for the aforementioned items to be used at online retail store services, while the final claim will allow the items to be used in virtual environments created for entertainment purposes.

Brands like Nike and Adidas have already stepped into the metaverse recently with the Swoosh’s acquisition of NFT collectibles brand RTFKT along with the Three Stripes’ collab with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gmoney, and Punks Comic.

At the time of writing, New Balance has not yet disclosed details about its plans on entering the metaverse. Check back soon for updates on this developing story.
