Though he explored the possibility of joining the Knicks as a free agent during the summer of 1996, Michael Jordan was primarily known as a "Knicks Killer." Time after time Michael broke the hearts of New York sports fans who desperately wanted to see the 90s 'Bockers bring the Larry O'Brien Trophy back to Madison Square Garden. One of those heartbroken fans was Spike Lee, who had ironically formed a working relationship and friendship with MJ over the years.
Paying tribute to that bond and Spike's time reprising his role as Mars Blackmon in the early Air Jordan commercials, the Jordan Brand officially introduced the Spiz'ike in 2006. When the Knicks returned to the playoffs behind the newly acquired Carmelo Anthony last season, Spike broke out two new Knicks-inspired colorways of the Spiz'ike, which are set to make their way to retail soon. Below is a comparison of the blue and orange-based shoes, which feature contrasting nubuck and tumbled leather uppers. Both pairs sport a heavy amount of black on the tongue, wings, lace tabs and midsole, while translucent blue-tinted rubber outsoles finish the task below.
