Comme des Garcons, no stranger to working with Nike, is bringing back the brand’s Sunder Max sneaker in true form for the first time since its original release in 1998.
Three colorways of the shoes–white/black, black, and white–were first spotted in 2021 as part of Comme des Garcons’ “Homme Plus” label’s Spring/Summer 2022 runway show.
The Sunder Max is a bit of a forgotten shoe from the late ‘90s, gaining niche popularity through cosigns from the likes of Lil Yachty and Joe La Puma, and has become a favorite amongst Instagram sneaker mood boards. Its defining feature is the zipper on the upper.
The Sunder Max received a “retro” in 2006, but the sneaker wasn’t true to the original model.
The trio of sneakers is set to release on April 22.
UPDATE (07/11): After releasing exclusively in Japan in April, Comme des Garçons has confirmed that its Nike Sunder Max collab is dropping again on July 21 exclusively at Doverstreetmarket.com and at all Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market stores for $350 each.
