The current love affair between sneakerheads and Asics can be mostly credited to Ronnie Fieg and his various creations over the years. Though he's worked with a plethora of brands and on a wide range of silos, he's probably best known for adding his touch to the Gel-Lyte III.
A celebration of his full body of work on the Gel-Lyte III, a "What the Fieg?" release appears to be in the works. The runner, previewed here, blends elements of Fieg's most popular designs, such as "Cove," "Salmon Toe" and "Leatherback."
While an official sneaker release date hasn't been announced, the "What the Fieg?" Gel-Lyte III is rumored for a December drop, right in the thick of the holiday season. We'll keep you updated as the story develops.
UPDATE 12/3: A better look at the "What the Fieg" (or "Homage") Asics Gel-Lyte III, which is currently on-hand for Ronnie Fieg's Art Basel exhibition in Miami. Without confirming the release, Fieg said on Twitter, "I've worked on 25 different styles of the GL3. 25th anniversary of the silhouette. It all works itself out."
According to the display, it seems that the "Homage" Gel-Lyte III has a sneaker release date of Dec. 23. Stand by for more information.
