The New York City Marathon is right around the corner, meaning that there's about to be a glut of sneakers related to the massive event. Usually these sneakers are all performance ones but Asics, an official sponsor of the race, has done the unexpected by teaming up with NYC sneaker institution Alife for a collaborative collection that includes a retro model.
The retro model in question is the original Asics Gel Kayano Trainer, which gets outfitted with perforated mesh, a liberal amount of reflective material, and the Alife Rivington Club's signature three diamonds on the toebox. The performance model is the Asics Gel Kayano 22, which echoes the trainer in its colorway if not in its materials.
Apparel consists of a jacket, tees, running tights, shorts, and a crewneck.
Watch for the Alife x Asics "NYC Marathon" pack to release at 12 noon EST on Friday, Oct. 30, in-store at the 158 Rivington St. Alife location in New York, as well as online via Alife.
