It's not every day you see a sneaker as rare and important as this one.
In honor of the premiere of episodes three and four of ESPN's The Last Dance yesterday, GoodwinSports shared images of the original Nike Air Ship in its black and red color scheme, said to be one of only two pairs that were given to Michael Jordan during his rookie season in 1984. This was prior to the inception of the Air Jordan line in 1985, and is the actual shoe that MJ was banned from wearing, despite the legend of that being the Air Jordan 1. This pair even features Jordan's signature on the collar.
Earlier this year, Jordan Brand re-issued the Air Ship for the first time in a white and red colorway, alongside a matching Air Jordan 1. This "New Beginnings" pack currently averages over $1,500 on StockX.
