Although Awake NY is most known for its apparel, the NYC-based streetwear is expanding its sneaker collaborations with a new Reebok on the way.
Thanks to le.syndrome, we're learning that this latest collab will arrive in the form of a brightly-colored Instapump Fury. The upper predominately features black mesh but is contrasted by vibrant yellow overlays. Additional details including co-branding stamped onto the heel along with a blue and yellow midsole and icy translucent outsole finishing off the look.
As of now, official release details surrounding this Awake NY x Reebok Instapump Fury have yet to be announced but check back soon for updates.
In addition to this pair, Awake founder Angelo Baque has also teased a still-unreleased Workout Low with similar colors last fall.
UPDATE (03/11): Following months of teasers, Awake NY's first Reebok collaboration has been fully unveiled. The range is made up of the aforementioned Instapump Fury and two colorways of the Workout Low in white and black.
In an interview with The Hip Store, Awake founder Angelo Baque and Reebok Classics head of global streetwear collaborations Leo Gamboa broke down the year-long process behind bringing the '90s-inspired collection to life.
"When I think of Reebok and of the Workout silhouette, I think of Raekwon," Baque said. "A lot of people don’t see that association, but I think of Raekwon, 'Glaciers of Ice.' Editorials of certain Wu-Tang members wearing that shoe with military cargo pants tucked into their sock or a hockey jersey."
"Angelo came up with the great idea of focusing on Japanese sneaker culture," Gamboa said. "The [Instapump] Fury is one of the most iconic sneakers in Japan. So, I think him adding that model to the storytelling is good offering for two different people, there’s a kid that wears only the Fury and that’s their aesthetic. But I also really identify with the Workout. So, we made the decision to offer both sides and both shoes are very strong in their own way."
The Awake NY x Reebok collaboration releases Friday, March 13 from awakenyclothing.com and Dover Street Market followed by a global launch on March 20. The Workout Low is priced at $120, while the Instapump Fury is $180.
