Virgil Abloh teased that there are a few hidden Easter eggs on his upcoming Off-White x Air Jordan 5 when it was revealed as part of Jordan Brand's 8x8 collection for NBA All-Star Weekend, and the designer has shared one on Instagram.
For this latest collab, Abloh told the brand during an interview that he is experimenting with the idea of holes, which are heavily featured throughout his Air Jordan 5 and its accompanying box. “I came up with this new language, which is having these holes through everything,” says Virgil. “You know, the same air that’s outside is in the product. So that’s why there are holes in the box, too.”
Similar to the DIY aesthetic featured on so many of his past collaborations with both Nike and Jordan Brand, Abloh is once again encouraging fans to put their own spin on the shoe by cutting out the translucent mesh panels as a metaphor to bridge together 'Nike Air' and outdoor air.
