As LeBron James boarded the team jet earlier today, the Lakers' photographer snapped a photo of him wearing an unreleased pair of Nikes, the latest example of the brand tasking the world's most high-profile athlete with introducing new product.
The shoe in question is the Air Max 2090, which, as its name suggests, is Nike's way of reimagining the Air Max 90 with a futuristic twist. Also revealed in a series of leaked Nike images, the shoe retains the basic DNA of the original. The mudguard, lateral branding, heel tab and positioning of the Max Air window are familiar elements that are a bit exaggerated this time around. Other details, such as its thin synthetic material, cut, tongue and heel pulls, ridged heel and re-designed outsole update the silo for modern consumers.
Though not yet officially announced by Nike, we've been told that this could be one of the big releases slated for Air Max Day 2020. Take a detailed look at the new model below and stick with Sole Collector for updates in the coming months.
UPDATE (01/21): Today, Nike has officially unveiled the Air Max 2090. As expected, the model draws design elements from the classic Air Max 90 seen with the mudguard, heel counter, and the design of the midsole. Key features on the silhouette include the use of new materials on the upper with the more supportive ones seen in black while the least supportive are translucent. The tooling has also been upgraded with a bigger Air unit that's 200 percent larger than its predecessor while the outsole features a new tread pattern as well. The Nike Air Max 2090 will make its retail debut globally this spring.
