Of the countless hilarious moments featured in Eddie Murphy's 1988 film Coming to America, the most iconic may be the mock commercial for Soul Glo, an activator for the Jheri curl hairstyle that was popular in the 80s. More than 30 years later, the clip, composed by the legendary Nile Rodgers, remains one of the funniest in cinema history.
After paying homage to his favorite movie with the "Coming to America" Nike Zoom Freak 1 this past summer, Giannis Antetokounmpo is dropping another inspired make-up before the end of the year. New images showcase a "Soul Glo" colorway, which borrows the black, red and yellow palette from the commercial. Soul Glo script adorns the tongue and heel of the shoe.
Though not yet announced by Nike, the word is that this pair will be worn by Antetokounmpo on Christmas Day and will release on Dec. 28.
UPDATE (12/23): Nike has officially confirmed that the Coming to America-inspired "Soul Glo" Zoom Freak 1 is releasing on SNKRS and at select Nike Basketball stockists on Dec. 28 for $130.
