With the 2019 U.S. Open already underway, Nike is gearing up its brand-sponsored female athletes with special NikeCourt performance apparel designed by Sacai's Chitose Abe.
The collaborative effort will mirror Sacai's signature hybridization theme with a double-layered skirt to add depth and dimension to a tennis standard. According to the brand, the ensemble is created "with an eye to bridging tennis’ athletic present with its past traditions. From a distance, the two-piece outfit appears to be a dress; at a closer glance, one sees an elegant articulation of a contemporary bodysuit."
The exclusive Sacai x Nike apparel will be making its debut on the reigning women's U.S. Open champion, Naomi Osaka as she is set to defend her title starting on Aug. 26.
Ahead of the tournament, Nike hosted a "Queens of the Future" pop-up experience in New York that brought together rising stars and legends of the game which included Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Markéta Vondroušová, Elina Svitolina, Madison Keys, Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitová, Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens, and Naomi Osaka.
