Earlier this month, news surfaced of a new Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 Low project rumored to release later this year. Anyone who was slightly disappointed that the collaboration would utilize the low-top instead of the classic Air Jordan 1 High can breath a sigh of relief. A first look at an upcoming Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 High colorway has surfaced, courtesy of @sneakerjamz on Instagram.
This pair sports a Los Angeles Lakers color scheme with a white leather toe box and side panels, purple used on the toe, eyelets, and heel, and yellow coloring in the Swooshes and ankle collar. This pair was initially spotted on the feet of Nike SB team rider Theotis Beasley a few weeks ago. Based on the photo, it looks like the Lakers layer may wear away to a "Chicago"-esque color scheme underneath.
The multi-layered design has become common on SBs as of late. The detail was most notably used on 2014's set of "Lance Mountain" colorways. The most recent collection of NBA x Nike SB sneakers also featured two-layered uppers.
Stay tuned as more details surface regarding the latest Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 project.
UPDATE (03/28): Nike has officially unveiled its upcoming Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 collaboration. Both pairs will release on May 25 for $175 each. This colorway is inspired by Los Angeles and Chicago, two important cities in the timeline of both Jordan Brand and skateboarding.
UPDATE (05/18): Check out the official look at the Nike SB x Air Jordan "LA to Chicago" launching via the SNKRS app on May 25. Retail price is set at $175.
UPDATE (08/09): Months after its debut, the "LA to Chicago" Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 is set to restock this weekend at select overseas retailers including End, Sneakersnstuff, and Solebox. Although it looks to be a European-based drop, each of the aforementioned retailers offers U.S. shipping, making the total price far easier to stomach than the sneaker's resale average of nearly $400.
