Nike has had a history of working with the stop-motion animation studio, Laika, over the years to craft sneakers inspired by its motion pictures. Think the "Coraline" Dunk High, "Kubo" Air Jordan 15, or "Paranorman" Foamposite One. The latest work between the two parties is an Air Max
1 Susan inspired by the film, Missing Link.
Tinker Hatfield and former animator Michael Berger have reinterpreted the costume design of the film's main protagonist, Mr. Link, designed by Deborah Cook to outfit the iconic running silhouette. Plaid panels on the toe and heel act as nods to the furry creature's suit. Green fabric on each side panel represents his vest, while white canvas sections represent his under shirt. Brown leather details on the tongue, top eyelets, and wrapping the midsole provide this pair with a premium touch. Cork insoles and gum outsoles complete the design.
As a playful callback to the film, "Max" has been crossed out on the tongue tag and replaced with "Susan," the name Mr. Link uses to hide his identity in the movie.
Look for the Laika x Nike Air Max Susan "Missing Link" to release via Nike SNKRS on April 9 for $170. Missing Link hits theaters shortly after on April 12. Check out an official look at the imaginative collab below.
