Back in 2011, Kanye West and Jay-Z joined forces to release the classic Watch the Throne album. One year later, amid the apex of Nike Basketball hype, a special LeBron 9 colorway surfaced inspired by the album. While that version would never release to the public, a "Watch the Throne" LeBron sneaker might finally be dropping almost seven years later.
According to French blog Basket4Ballers' release calendar, a "Watch the Throne" LeBron 16 will be dropping in the coming weeks for NBA All-Star Weekend. Thanks to @J23app on Twitter, there is now a first look at the pair as well. It resembles the LeBron 9 with a black upper, gold detailing, and Riccardo Tisci-inspired floral print used for the liner and laces. Details like the heel pull tab, James' signature on the tongue, and overlay on the medial toe have also been borrowed from King James' ninth signature. Given the borrowed elements, this could potentially be a #LeBronWatch release for the upcoming festivities in Charlotte.
The official name of the sneaker also features "KC." While it is unclear what the designation represents, it could merely be a way to distinguish this pair as a limited release. The "Watch the Throne" LeBron 16 is currently rumored to drop on Feb. 17, the day of the 2019 NBA All-Star Game. Given the date, it is also possible this is the pair we will see King James lacing up in his 15th All-Star appearance. After all, LeBron is the only signature athlete who Nike has not officially announced an "All-Star" colorway for.
