During its Q2 earnings call last month, Nike made a number of announcements, though one of the biggest from a sneakerhead perspective was the fact that a self-lacing basketball shoe was not only on the way, but would come at a far more affordable price than its predecessor, the HyperAdapt 1.0.
While specifics on the still-unnamed auto-lacing basketball sneaker remain murky, the Swoosh is beginning to drop hints about what could very well be the shoe in question. A new teaser circulating advertises what the brand is promising as the "future of footwear." In the clip, two basketball-like spheres—which are also reminiscent of the light-up dots seen at the heel of the OG HyperAdapt—are seen bouncing up and down.
The HyperAdapt 1.0 retailed for $720, but Nike has announced that the next iteration will be priced at $350. "I’m excited to announce that in the new year we’ll launch a new adaptive performance platform in basketball at the $350 price point. We have a smart shoe designed for the perfect fit, and it’s a major step in advancing and connecting our digital transformation to product," CEO Mark Parker said of the sneaker.
