Fresh off of his Complex cover story with John Mayer, the designer had plenty more to tell La Puma about his love for archival sneakers, his previous footwear projects with Vans, being a fan of Allen Iverson, and working with Kanye West on the Adidas Yeezy Boost 750. Of course, Lorenzo also discussed his highly anticipated Nike collaboration. When designing his own original silhouette, the Air Fear of God 1, Lorenzo says he pushed Nike the same way he saw West push Adidas with the Yeezy line.
"I was willing to walk away from the opportunity if it wasn't something like this. I'm not as talented as Virgil [Abloh] where I can take something and play on it. I've got one specific idea and that's where my convictions lie," said Lorenzo. "After watching [Kanye West] fight and push Adidas I said, 'Hey, I'm down to do a shoe, but it's got to be my shape.'"
