'King' LeBron 16s Will Release to Start the Lakers' Season

A preview of the Nike LeBron 16 'King' sneakers LeBron James will reportedly wear for the NBA season opener n his first game with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Weeks ahead of the 2018-19 NBA regular season tip-off, LeBron James' 16th signature sneaker legacy is already being written with several colorways released and previewed thus far. With the season opener less than three weeks away, details are emerging on what LeBron could take to the court in for his first official night in purple and gold.

James is rumored to wear this "King" LeBron 16 colorway for the Lakers' first game, a road contest against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday, Oct. 18. 

With a crimson-colored Battleknit 2.0 upper, the "King" colorway features a leopard print material on the heel reminiscent of what was seen on the tongue of the "1 Thru 5" make up. Further details include a custom insole printed with a graphic of LeBron sitting on a throne as an NBA rookie.

Release details for the LeBron 16 "King" have not been revealed.

UPDATE (10/12): Nike confirms that the "King" LeBron 16 will drop Thursday, Oct. 18 to coincide with the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA regular season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers. Retailing for $185, the colorway pays respect to the African meaning of LeBron's name, as well as his first promotional poster with the Swoosh.
