Jordan Brand Promises Innovation With the Air Jordan 33

Jordan Brand has tweeted out a teaser image that could possibly be linked to the Air Jordan 33. The tweet includes a photo that could allude to a lacing system that will be featured on the model.

Despite being decades removed from his playing days, Jordan Brand continues to add to Michael Jordan's Air Jordan signature line each year. This morning, the brand took to Twitter to drop a cryptic teaser that might be alluding to the reveal of the Air Jordan 33. 

The tweet simply reads "Locked down." and is accompanied by the the hashtag #PrepareToFly, a date, and a photo. In the photo is white elastic band with a red and black tab displaying the word 'PULL.' A tag reading 'PULL TO LOCKDOWN' that resembles the detail commonly seen on flight jackets also hangs from the band.

While nothing is made official with this tweet, this could be teasing a new lacing or fit system that will be debuted with the upcoming signature model. If Jordan Brand keeps up the trend of recent years, expect the 33 to also feature design elements inspired by the Air Jordan 3.

According to the the post, expect a more concrete reveal and release details on Sept. 20. 

UPDATE (09/17): With Sept. 20 fast approaching, Jordan Brand is teasing more details on the Air Jordan 33 and promising new levels of innovation from the latest model.

David Creech, VP of design for Jordan Brand, touched on the 33 and more of what's to come from the brand in the future. According to Creech, a new design concept known as Flight Utility will be employed across a number of products including the Jordan 33.

"As we focus on the future, we need to lead with innovation. We call this Flight Utility, and it's about designing for the future—extrapolating from the core Jordan Brand DNA along an innovation and function-first approach," Creech said in a press release. "As designers, we see ourselves as problem-solvers. When you start with innovation, it leads you to someplace new."

Additionally, Jordan Brand tweeted yet another preview of the model, which appears to be a look at a closure mechanism.
