The University of North Carolina has suspended 13 players from its football program for selling team-issued Jordan sneakers.
According to an official release from UNC, nine of the players will be missing four games this upcoming season, two will miss two games, and the remaining two will be missing one game each. All of the suspended players are still permitted to participate in all other team activities.
These suspensions stem from a discovery by the university earlier this year that players were selling exclusive Air Jordan 3 PEs in exchange for cash. The team received the pairs back in January and they are one of the many exclusive Jordans given to the team since it became the second collegiate football program sponsored by the Jumpman back in 2017.
NCAA rules state that players are prohibited from selling any of the apparel given to them by the program. The suspensions will likely put the Tar Heels at a disadvantage when they open the season against the Cal Golden Bears on Sept. 1.
