The Pensole Footwear Design Academy and Foot Locker are set to release an exclusive collaboration with Asics as part of their latest sneaker design contest. 

Designed by Matt Franklin, Razma Hassani, and Blake Scordino, the Asics Gel-Diablo "Once Upon a Time in Kobe" plays on the Japanese aesthetic of Koi ponds and silk kimonos with a mix of light and dark blues on a background of lighter beige tones throughout the sneaker.

On top of a $12,000 award, the winning footwear design team of three will get to see their product release this weekend exclusively through Foot Locker.

The Japanese-themed sneaker is slated for a launch this Saturday, Sept. 1 and will release online via asics.comfootlocker.com, and at select retail locations for a retail price of $120. The limited release includes roughly 1,000 pairs split between 15 Foot Locker locations and the online stores, although the exact number of units was not revealed.
