Sean Wotherspoon's colorful Nike Air Max 1/97 that released on Air Max Day 2018 is widely considered one of the best releases of the year. Given the popularity of the pair, it is no surprise Nike has decided to use it for inspiration on future releases. That seems to be the case with this upcoming Air Max 97 for the ladies.
The upcoming colorway sports a green upper that alternates between lighter and darker shades. Although the upper is tonal, it still certainly bears a resemblance to Wotherspoon's vintage-inspired creation with its use of corduroy paneling. Corduroy is uncommon to see on newer footwear releases, but was brought back into the fold by the Round Two co-founder thanks to his love of Nike caps from the '70s and '80s.
Unlike Wotherspoon's hybrid, this variation sits atop the usual Air Max 97 midsole. Other details on this women's release include metal lace tips and metal dot detailing on the mid-panel by the Swoosh branding.
Interestingly enough, Wotherspoon also recently took to Instagram to share a look at some original samples of his Air Max 1/97 with tonal corduroy uppers that share an even closer resemblance to this rendition.
An official release date and pricing for the women's Air Max 97 has yet to be announced.
