A 15-year-old middle schooler from the Seattle area has been booked in a juvenile detention center after he allegedly cut a fellow student with a box cutter in a dispute over Air Jordans.
The incident took place Tuesday, when police say an "ongoing dispute" led to the victim being slashed at his neck and side. While department's press release does not elaborate, Komo News is shedding light on what apparently led to the violent confrontation.
Komo reports that the altercation began when the victim said he was going to "get" the alleged assailant's Air Jordan sneakers and Gucci belt. Telling police he was frightened by the victim's "large and muscular" stature, the suspect armed himself with a box cutter before heading to school on Tuesday.
According to the report, the victim approached the student and grabbed at the belt after being provoked to take it. That's when the suspect allegedly swung the box cutter in a reckless attempt to protect his property.
While it's refreshing to hear an account of someone standing up for themselves in the face of bullying and sneaker-related violence, we can't help but feel there could've been a better course of action here.
