With the colorway's charitable origin in mind, Jordan Brand's Wings program recently teamed up with educational partners in New Orleans to not only award scholarships to 10 graduating high school seniors, but custom sneakers as well.
The kids were treated to PE-style versions of the "Katrina" Air Jordan 3 Retro, originally auctioned off as part of a set to help raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in 2006. Absent from retail since, the colorway will finally be available to the public on May 12.
Student initials along the ankle are reminiscent of the Player Exclusives worn by Portland Trail Blazers guard Derek Anderson in 2003.
