With just a couple weeks left before the official start of the 2018 NBA Playoffs, Jordan Brand has introduced Chris Paul's latest signature model. Paul will be taking the floor tonight in Portland in the debut colorway of the CP3.XI.
For his latest sneaker, there were specific attributes that CP3 made sure were included. For a lockdown fit, a velcro strap has been added to the midfoot that is inspired by one of his favorite shoes as a kid: the Nike Adjust Force. "I expect to really see the benefit from this in the Playoffs, where the intensity of the game revs up just a little bit," says Paul.
Traction was also important for the Houston Rockets point guard. This is achieved with a rubber outsole and modified herringbone traction pattern that extends up the medial forefoot. The CP3.XI's cushioning set-up is provided by Zoom Air bags in the forefoot and heel.
To enable easier execution of hard lateral cuts and quick stops on the floor, a TPU plate has been placed under the lateral forefoot. And the fifth element Paul wanted to include the style. CP3's logo covers the entire heel area, while other hidden details are placed throughout the silhouette that represent his family and the city of Houston. The initial colorway will also pay homage to Houston with a unique black and red print placed across the upper.
"I’m a sneakerhead, and listening to MJ growing up and buying Jordans — or trying to buy Jordans — and getting to know MJ personally and hear some of the stories, like with the Jordan 15s where the tongue goes out and it’s supposed to be him sticking his tongue out, the 14s and the car that he drove… I think the story is what makes the shoe," says Paul.
