A familiar face is returning to his post at Jordan Brand.

Gentry Humphrey, who parted ways with the brand in 2011, is returning as Vice President of Footwear this year. Sole Collector reached out to our sources to confirm the story, which was first reported by The Shoe Game. No further details are being disclosed at this time.

Since his departure, Humphrey has worn many hats for Nike, including his current role as VP of Profile Sports. In 2015, it was rumored that he'd be leaving Nike altogether, but his exit was reportedly counter-offered and he was convinced to stay.

Somewhat of a polarizing figure among longtime Jordan Brand fans, Humphrey helped shape the vision for what became of the now multi-million dollar juggernaut. From a product standpoint, he's known as a risk taker, credited with greenlighting some of the all-time great retro releases (UNDFTD x Air Jordan 4, "DMP" Air Jordan 6/11) and 'controversial' projects such Jordan hybrids. As Jordan Brand looks to reclaim its No. 2 spot in the U.S. footwear market, it makes sense to tap into the mind of someone who led some of its most successful years.
