Which sneaker model produced the highest sales dollars in 2017? Industry analyst Matt Powell provided a ranking of this elusive data on Twitter this week, listing the top 10 earners. While Nike typically dominates these lists, Adidas took the top position in 2016 with the Superstar coming in at number one. That model fell to the fourth slot in 2017, but the Three Stripes did pick up a second entry in the top 10.

It's notable that Powell's data, via the NPD Group, combines the sneakers by silhouette rather than individual colorway. That means that those models releasing in multiple iterations have the edge over styles with fewer variations.

Heavily hyped releases such as those from Kanye West's Yeezy line and Virgil Abloh's Nike collaboration are absent from the list, helping to back Powell's theory that their commercial impact is minimal. Whether they've influenced models that did make it, however, is an entirely different argument. It is hard to imagine a world in which the Adidas Tubular Shadow makes this top 10 if the Yeezy 350 doesn't exist.
