A recently opened New York City resell shop drew criticism last week after posting what appeared to be a fake pair of Nike Mags, the Back to the Future sneakers that fetch thousands of dollars. The store, Round Two New York City, later deleted the image of the sneakers from its Instagram account.

The Instagram post, screenshotted below by Twitter user @richiedge, advertised a size 8.5 for sale for $3,750. But the Nike Mag sneakers, which released in 2011 and then again in 2015, were not produced in half sizes. What's more, the box appears flimsier than that of legit pairs, and the shape of the midsole's curve near the forefoot is questionable.

Hey Round Two how did you get an 8.5 of a shoe that never released in half sizes? That box is interesting as well pic.twitter.com/kbcoaM2qNG

Legitimate pairs of the 2011 Nike Mags can sell for upwards of $10,000. Even more expensive is the auto-lacing 2015 Nike Mag, which goes for over $40,000 on the resell market.

Unlike popular sneaker consignment stores Flight Club and Stadium Goods, Round Two buys pairs outright from sellers and then lists them for sale. Round Two's founder, Sean Wotherspoon, told Sole Collector that this pair was bought for the store by an employee who is still in training, and that the shoes were trashed after the Instagram post was deleted.

Wotherspoon, who won Nike's Vote Forward contest, has his own Nike collaboration coming out in 2018. The contest, which ran in March 2017, let people vote on Air Max sneaker concepts designed by Nike's handpicked panel of "Revolutionairs."

Round Two also has locations in Los Angeles and Richmond, Virginia.
