When presented with an opportunity to work on the Nike Kyrie 3, Sneaker Room owner Suraj Kaufman decided to use an emotional connection he shares with Jersey native Kyrie Irving as his source of inspiration.
Debuted on-court in Brooklyn earlier this month, the "Mom" Kyrie 3 serves as a tribute to the late mothers of both Kaufman and Irving. More detailed than any Kyrie 3 release to date, the shoes are highlighted by rose embroidery, symbolic of the flowers children and loved ones often gift to mothers. The polka dot lining is inspired by a shirt worn by Irving's mother in one of her best photos. Sneaker Room's creative director Jeff Rose came up with the idea of reworking the tongue logo to read 'MOM' in the same font. Signatures on the heels have been replaced with the initials E.K. for Ellen Kaufman and E.I. for Elizabeth Irving. Other details include "I Love You Mom" insoles, speckled midsoles, heart-printed outsoles and Love-printed medial Swooshes.
Two versions of the "Mom" Kyrie 3 were produced and will be sold in limited qualities. All proceeds will be donated to family shelters and domestic women shelters. The red colorway, limited to 250 pairs and available in sizes 3.5 to 15, will be priced at $200. A gold-based pair, limited to a run of 50 and available in sizes 8 to 15, will retail for $1,000.
