An attempted sneaker robbery has left a father of 11 dead in New Jersey, NJ.com reports. The victim, Jose "Migue" Malave, was stabbed to death while trying to defend his son, according to a family member.
Malave's son was reportedly almost robbed of his shoes by a group of teens on Tuesday. That same group later arrived at Malave's home "thinking the young boy had other nice things," a family member told NJ.com.
The sneakers at the center of the crime were not mentioned by name in the report.
A 17-year-old male is facing charges of armed burglary, conspiracy, felony murder, and weapons offenses in connection with the stabbing.
