Nike's 2017 investor day meeting on Wednesday was filled with clues about where the brand is heading in the near future. Part of that future will look to the past: According to Michael Spillane, Nike's president of product and categories, a return of the Shox cushioning system is in the works.

"We're bringing back the Shox, a model with unmatched propulsive feel and a striking aesthetic," Spillane said. "Launching in the holiday season, the new Shox shows the power of our edit to amplify strategy as one model, one consistent feel amplified across 11 distinct characters and 25 colorways."

Nike Shox, a cushioning that uses piston-like columns in the midsole, debuted in 2000 and is best remembered via the Shox NZ and Vince Carter's Shox BB4. New models have been few and far between recently, although NikeLab had a Shox model in 2014.

It's unclear whether Spillane's reference to a holiday launch means the shoes will release for Holiday 2017 or Holiday 2018, although one assumes the former is the case, given that he introduced the shoe as an example of Nike's efforts to speed up its product roll-outs.
