Looking to remain competitive with the two biggest sportswear brands in the world, Under Armour has finally set up shop in the heartland of sneaker business—Portland, Oregon.
The Baltimore-based brand officially expanded to the west coast by opening its doors at the the former YMCA on Barbur Boulevard, said to be the place where legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield crafted the first cross training shoe. According to the Portland Business Journal, the space is home to about 100 employees, mostly in footwear and design innovation. To engineer product that meets modern standards, there's several data labs used to track athlete performance. Additionally, Under Armour renovated two local parks that give them access to running tracks and athletic fields.
Plans for the PDX Campus were originally announced in April 2015. Under Armour also has a tech-focused office in Austin.
