Steph Curry has never been shy about his Christianity, and regularly uses his sneakers to put his faith on full display. In an interview with Complex, the two-time MVP explains what prompted him to start the tradition of writing Bible verses on his shoes in college.

"My mom texted me before my first practice my freshman year. Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28, 'All things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose,'" Curry said. "She had sent me that verse in a text message as an encouragement and inspiration for my college career. She challenged me to kind of find something that I could count on to give me that strength, focus, and belief in myself as I embarked on that new challenge."

He picked Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," which he usually shortens to "I can do all things" when writing it on his sneakers.

The religious influence on Curry's sneakers go beyond him just writing on shoes. His Under Armour Curry 4 also has Morse code on the outsole reference Bible verse Romans 8:28.
