Roger Federer is in rare company as a Jordan collaborator, having worked with the brand on multiple releases for his Vapor Tour 9 x Air Jordan 3 silhouette. The projects were a long time coming, as the tennis icon's MJ fandom stretches all the way back to his days growing up in Europe.
"Where I grew up, he was so big, and so well-liked, so successful, well-spoken," Federer says on the latest episode of Sneaker Shopping. "There was everything about him. He had the perfect run going for so long. And then he retired, and I couldn't believe it."
A young Federer was able to watch Michael Jordan play through NBA clip shows that would air in Europe on Sundays. Through this, Jordan became a hero even for distant viewers like Federer.
The latest collaborative project between the two was the "Fire Red" Vapor Tour AJ3 that released at the end of August.
