Editors' Picks: The Best Sneakers of August 2017
The Sole Collector staff breaks down their favorite sneakers this month.
Tyler, The Creator x Converse One Star
Gerald Flores, Editor-in-Chief
Take Tyler, The Creator's name away from this shoe and it's still a clean colorway of the Converse One Star. Add the rapper's name to it and it's just taken to another level with the subtle Golf le Fleur details like the stitched flower over the star and bumblebee on the heel.
Nike Air Max 97 'Marina Blue'
Brendan Dunne, News Editor
Yes, there has been a glut of Air Max 97s this year. Yes, this is a pretty pedestrian spin on an OG colorway. But still, the sneaker just works. While the colorway was only made in women's sizes, I was able to go up to size 12 and fit into a pair just fine.
Nike Air Zoom Generation 'OG'
Zac Dubasik, Managing Editor
When the "First Game" Air Zoom Generations returned back in January, we knew it wouldn't be the only pair coming back. The follow-up was a bit of a disappointment though when an inferior version of "Wheats" dropped. But the LeBron retro line got back on track here with the actual shoe he wore in his first game. This was a must have for me, since it's the only original colorway I've neve owned—unfortunately copping sneakers in 2017 is easier said than done, and I struck out like usual.
Bait x Adidas Consortium 'R&D' Pack
Brennan Hiro Williams, Social Media Editor
Working with Boost sneakers for the first time, BAIT delivered two great colorways of the EQT Support 93/16 and EQT Support Future, utilizing both glow-in-the-dark and reflective Primeknit details. I'll be rocking the all-white pair as much as possible until next Tuesday.
Air Jordan 13 Retro 'Bred'
Brandon Richard, Senior Writer
At this point, I'm only concerned with Jordan retros if they're original colorways. The "Bred" 13 will always be welcome in my world, especially when Jordan Brand brings it back with 3M reflective paneling.
Nike Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan 3
Rich Lopez, Editorial Producer
It's so rare that we see a Jumpman on any other shoe besides a Jordan model that when it does happen, it has to be special. That's the case with all three of the Roger Federer collaborations and the most recently released "Fire Red" colorway. Two of the greatest all time players in their respective sports coming together to create an organic and good looking shoe—you really can't ask for more.
