Perhaps not the fight of the century, but the spectacle of the century took place in Las Vegas earlier tonight when Floyd "Money" Mayweather put his undefeated record on the line against MMA crossover star "The Notorious" Conor McGregor.
A testament to McGregor's overall combat skill level, the fight exceeded all expectations, a far cry from Mayweather's mega bout against Manny Pacquiao. McGregor repeatedly caught Mayweather with his jab and frustrated him with angles, arguably winning the early part of the fight. However, with his experience and trained endurance, Mayweather settled in late, applied the pressure and ultimately finished his foe with a 10th round TKO to move to 50-0.
Also surprising was Mayweather's choice of footwear—for the past several years of his career, he's boxed exclusively in Reebok boots. For the McGregor fight, he stepped in the ring wearing a pair of gold and black custom Adidas bearing his name and a fringe collar. It doesn't appear that any official business with Adidas is being done—just another good look for a brand with all of the momentum right now.
