Kyrie Irving is channeling the Mamba Mentality on an upcoming pair of his Nike Kyrie 3s previewed on Instagram on Friday. The shoes are a direct reference to the Nike Kobe 5 "Bruce Lee," a pair that Irving has a personal connection to.
"I was 17 years old playing in the Nike Extravaganza in California," Irving explained in an Instagram video, "and I ended up wearing these Nike Kobe 'Bruce Lee' editions for that game. We ended up winning, and from that point on it was hands down my favorite shoe, ever."
The Nike Kyrie 3 "Bruce Lee" uses the same black and yellow palette as the Kobe pair, and also has the same scratch marks across the upper. The shoe has a combination Kobe/Kyrie logo on its tongue. The general design appears to borrow heavily from the "Samurai" Kyrie 3s.
Based on Irving's description of the shoes in the video, it sounds like this pair will release at retail in the future.
