In a 17-year career full of them, the most iconic moment of Scottie Pippen's NBA tenure may have been his posterization of New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing.
During Game 6 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals, a wide open Pippen cut through the lane, received pass from Pete Myers and was met at the rim by Ewing. Only, Pippen made easy work of Ewing, throwing down one of the nastiest one-handed dunks in NBA history. If that wasn't bad enough, he then walked over Ewing while look down at him. Oddly enough, thinking back to the great Bulls vs. Knicks rivalry of the 90s, it was probably this play in the brief post-Jordan era that stands alone as its defining play.
So, with Pippen's Air More Uptempo back in rotation this year, Nike Sportswear decided to use the silhouette to pay homage to "The Dunk." The upcoming release sports a Knicks-inspired mix of white, royal and orange, with block-style number '33' embroidery on the heels. The standout feature, however, is an actual silhouette of Pippen dunking over Ewing printed along the insoles.
The comedy here is that Pippen wasn't even wearing the Air More Uptempo when he dunked on Ewing. Instead, he was laced up in the lesser known Air Swift. So, this is just Nike being petty in an effort to move pairs.
