A regular in our weekly Celebrity #SoleWatch recaps, singer John Mayer is a noted sneaker and streetwear enthusiast who's often lauded for his keen sense of style. That praise hasn't yet landed him an official collaboration with Nike, so he took matters into his own hands.
This weekend, Mayer officially announced the "Spirit Level" Air Max 90, which sports a mix of grey, white and black, with speckled midsoles and neon Air bags. Detailing the project in an interview with GQ, Mayer says he designed the shoe on NIKEiD, then purchased every pair the brand would sell him.
"I’m just waiting for it to get discontinued on their site," Mayer told GQ Style. "And I’m gonna offer it as my own shoe through my Shopify page. [laughs] Just for fun!"
And that appears to be exactly what he's doing. According to Mayer, the "Spirit Level" Air Max 90 will release Saturday, July 29. Keep an eye on his Instagram feed this week for specifics.
